Anyone know when the proprietary VGA connector for the Mini 1000 will be out?  A couple of magazines are saying it already is, but after a lot of looking I can't find it anywhere on the HP website.

I'll second this question, since my e-mail reply from HP was incoherent.

I bought the 1001TU three weeks ago and the webcam initially seemed OK. Then I downloaded all the BIOS and driver updates and installed those. Something then slowed down the system startup into Windows and the webcam would barely show anything... and I was sure there had not been a problem previously.

Researching MSDN indicated that it may be a low power supply on the USB bus. I did a ruthless delete all USB Root Hubs in Device Manager and let it re-install them. That seemed to correct the slow startup, which may been slow wireless network start, but not the webcam. I then went to each of the USB Root Hubs and in Power Management unchecked the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option. That has improved my webcam considerably.

The 'cam is a bit slow on startup to auto adjust itself to ambient light levels. My guess is that indoor lighting is not bright enough to activate it to switch on the USB power supply after Windows has shut it down to save power.

Meanwhiles the hunt for an expansion port / VGA adapter is frustrating.

Unfortunately the HP Mini 1000 (or HP Compaq 700) expansion port / vga out is NOT an Apple equivalent....

I went to the local Apple shop and looked at all the Apple cables. None come close. The tech guy said he'd never seen anything quite like it.. he then checked all of his distirbutors and found nothing. Then he searched all the HP sources online... just to confirm that there are no clues there either. Nada.

Conclusion: there is no known Apple VGA out adapter that resembles the port on the HP Mini 1000 series.

Thanks for that, Pengwyns.  Are you going to buy it?  Can you let us know if you do?

Having studied the photo in one of the links you were given, it doesn't look quite right, perhaps a bit short.

The Mac guy at my university electronics shop said he'd read on a Mac board that Mac connectors wouldn't work with the HP minis because the HP has an aperture that's more recessed than on Apple products.

The HP Mini VGA is not the same as the Apple port... I saw the Apple adaptor and it is the same as shown on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini-VGA

... the search continues.

Kudos!
