I tried your suggestion and it worked but no photo printing, so I tried the Photosmart D6100 series and got my photo ability back. I now show a C6100 and a D6100.  I set the D6100 to default and it works perfectly.

Mine works fine as a 990C photoprinter so I found no need to install any other printer.

I have not yet tried to photo print   but  from what you both  say, if the 990c does NOT photoprint  I can just add a D6100 ( using Windows 7 drivers) and it will photo print.

 

Ok...    sooner HP release a new software kit for the C6180 the better imho.

Yes the photosmart d6100 driver found in windows 7 will work for the printing part and the photosmart C6100 will work for scan and everything else. Just set them both to the same port and set the D6100 as the default printer.
