I upgraded my dv9543cl HP Notebook from Vista to Win7 and was having no problems with my HP C3180.  A couple days later, I decided to check the HP website to see if any Win7 updated drivers had been posted for the C3180.  I found that there had and proceeded to download and install the entire new HP Photosmart package, because all of the documentation said that it would provide improved performance.  When I completed installation, I was no longer able to print anything!

The fancy new HP Solution Center app was able to see my printer.  It was even able to tell me the estimated ink levels.  Furthermore, it showed up in the Printers listing in the Control Panel with a big green check mark that told me everything was OK ... but nothing worked.  I have read all these Forum posts until my eyes have gone crossed.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything multiple times AND STILL NOTHING!

I finally decided to give up and go back to the Vista drivers, BUT, when I tried to reinstall them, I got an error message saying that the Vista drivers are unsupported and I CANNOT install them.  So now, I'm stuck with a great printer that doesn't print, and a scanner that doesn't scan.

In the past, I've always gone HP all the way, notebooks, scanner, printers, mice ... thinking that it would make things easier, compatability wise ... and thinking I could always trust HP to provide hassle-free updates, support, etc. ... but this is ridiculous.  How do you release something that does nothing but paint someone into a corner with absolutely no options?

Kudos!

Have you tried calling HP Tech Support?

If it is still under warranty they might be able to help ,  If you're in the US, call 1-800-474-6836

Hi Curious ...

Thanks for the thoughts ... No, I haven't tried Tech Support because in my past experience all you'll get is someone that says the same two things ...

1.  Uninstall and reinstall (even if you tell them you already have), and when that doesn't work ...

2.  They'll blame everything on Microsoft, especially if there's a new OS involved.

... and of course, if I contact Microsoft, they'll blame HP ... and around and round we go!

Kudos!

Hi  deeteedub, the last time I talked to HP tech support from US, he was able to to do 'Remote access ' my Pc to trouble-shoot error messages I encountered by the HP Solutions center. From there onwards, we were able to get somewhere concrete to resolve the issue.

Hey , you already paid for the quality assurance & support from big brand HP, so do make use of their suppor until the last cent :smileyhappy:
