Scandroid, you rock the house! Thank you!!!! Now, can HP fix this so we don't have to go around this backdoor?!? Scanning is a really critical function for me. You know, this really sucks. When I upgraded to Vista I had to throw away my 'old' (9 month) printer because they refused to support it under Vista (it worked great under XP). Then I got my 7410 and had to use the 6500 driver because the 7400 driver never supported automatic full duplex. now this. Un-freakin'-believable. If only there were more HP employees like you!

This work around does indeed work but I'm not convinced it's a problem with the software. I have two computers running Windows 7 Home Premium 64. On one I cannot save scans (unless I execute hpiscnapp directly), but on the other computer scans save directly from the solution center. The main difference was that on the computer with the problem an old version of solution center and all-in-one drivers was already installed when I upgraded to Windows 7; on the computer that scans work/save as expected I installed the HP software after upgrading (i.e it was a completely new install of the HP software/drivers). I also could not print from applications using the new version on the problem system. Here the problem turned out to be that the HP installer was not fully deleting all the printer drivers. After I manually deleted the old drivers and reinstalled the new software/drivers I could print from apps again. So I think the problem lies in the installer and not the applications themselves- it does not always rid the system of old files and maybe does not configure the scanner properly.

jlaljl- Thanks for the idea. One difference is that I have no trouble printing, just the scan doesn't save. Scanning directly from the .exe file worked yesterday but today I get an hp imaging device error (even though it's up and running and everything else works). I'm wondering, when you reinstalled the new software/drivers onto your "problem system" -- did you use the CD (created before windows 7 out) or the full windows 7 download from the hp web site? I may try to repost this question under 8500 series in case there's something different there. I was just excited when I saw the same problem for this printer!

jlaljl, Thank you for this information. I will pass it along to one of the technical team to help diagnose the problems we are seeing. Thanks again!!!
I work for HP, but these words are mine alone.

Scandroid, You're a lifesaver!! One question: when utilizing the hpiscnapp.exe file directly, I am unable to Add/Delete Pages and therefore seem to be limited to single page scans. I can Add/Delete Selections but not Pages. Any suggestions to get the Add Page feature?? I discovered that I can scan multiple pages indivudually and then use Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to combine the individual files into a multi-page document but it would be nice to be able to do that directly from hpiscnapp.exe. Regardless, I'm at least functional with the Scan feature until HP comes up with a "fix" for this problem. We owe you. Filehorse

Scandroid, My laptop also was a windows 7 home premium x64 upgrade from Vista Home premium. I already had the HP printer drivers installed for windows vista when I upgraded. Since someone mentioned that installation of the Windows 7 drivers on a clean install of Win 7 worked, I tried uninstalling all HP drives and reinstalling the new Win 7 drivers. This did not work, and actually now I have more problems. Before this reinstallation, I could scan but not save. Now I cannot scan from the HP solutions center. I get an error code that tells me the scan device is being used by other software. Interestingly enough, I can still can and save when accessing the hpiscnapp.exe file directly. Regards, Michael

Same issue here too. No erros and no file. Yes Running the Scan app does save the file but this does not fix the issue as I should be able to use the solution center as designed. This has happend on two Vista PC's that were inplace upgrades. Latest windows 64bit software was installed after the upgreade. Please fix this issue ASAP Thanks

Hi, We have been working very hard on a workaround for this problem. I would like to thank many of my learned colleagues in various parts of the world for helping create this solution. The problem stems from a dll not being upgraded during the Cue 13 install. The correct version of this dll can be found here - filename hpqxmlul.dll ftp://noscnfil:update2@hprc.external.hp.com/ Save this file to your PC and then copy it to the correct location. For 32 Bit C:\Program Files\HP \Digital Imaging\bin For 64 Bit C:\Program Files (x86)\HP \Digital Imaging\bin After you have copied the file to the correct location and overwritten the one that was there restart the PC and the scanning problem should go away Please reply appropriately after you have your scanning working Thanks JonW

Though I work for HP, My posts express MY opinion, and not those of HP.
