I verified the driver versions already installed on my system and they are the same ones mentioned and they did not resolve the freezing for me.  The 5.22 BIOS decreases the frequency of the freezes, the system has to be off much longer for the cold start freeze to occur but it does still occur, so I don't consider the 5.22 BIOS a solution nor are the drivers that you say resolved it for you.

I just installed Windows 7 last night and haven't had a chance to cold start it yet.

Kudos!

I can't find any reference to this device with Google to locate an updated driver.  You'd expect HP to provide all the necessary drivers for their hardware when they ship you the frigging Windows 7 upgrade!

This is probably comingfrom something like Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120% - a virtual CD/ISO mounting program. They usually use random names for the virtual hardware probably to avoid detection by anti-piracy systems.

Also I'm still in disbelief that this problem is still on-going. After having hundreds and thousands of the same model system repaired with new components or replace, I'd think that HP would notice a trend. Even ignoring that, this thread is ridiculously long and for months, you guys have been having the same problems and not getting any solution to it. I've got a bunch of HP total care stories including my latest; one of the dv2000 notebooks with the notoriously faulty NVIDIA graphics died and their extended warranty program is not covering it because it's out of that extended time period. It's absolutely absurd that they would screw the customer over like that! Not to mention, another HP desktop that I've been fighting to get fixed - they've been sending me replacement parts that are not only blatantly used (fans of the graphics cards are dusty), they're all faulty as well! Both video cards they've sent and now the hard drive have failed in various ways. Even replacing them with 3rd party components, I had to fight with it to get Windows installed. I've just about had it with that system and with HP. I'm making it known to every customer in my store to never buy HP products ever again, whether they own one already or not. Nobody should have to go through the frustration that I have as well as all of you.

I don't mean to go super off topic but I can't wait to see some of these rolling into my shop for repairs. At least I'll know where the problem lies!

Does anyone know of a cheaper mobo you can purchase, beside the EVGA board? I'm sure that practically any board that is compatible will be better than the Pegatron mobo.

I did it using the install disk from Microsoft (not HP). The installation was completely uneventful and the OS runs great. If I didn't have the BSOD problem, this would be a dream machine.

@SolFried,

I have ordered the Win7 upgrade from HP.

Just wondered if a clean install was better than just upgrade.

To All,

Does Win7 (HP upgrade) have all of the HP junk on it ?

41 days now since repair, computer (e9180f) still running fine.

Kudos!

Hello everyone, lucky ones, victims and super-victims.  I am the originator of this thread back in July.  I just wanted to check-up on what is going on with the HP BSOD/Freeze fiasco.  I see that nothing has changed.  <text deleted>  Luckily for me, my replacement e9150t has been working fine without lockups for the past few months.  The USBs are still Mickey-Mousey, but I should consinder myself extremely lucky.  Today, I received the HP Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate updgrade.  I will wait a bit until I install it, as I do not trust HP to do anything right the first time (or the Nth time, for that matter).

Good luck to you all.

That is the cheapest i7 micro ATX available for now, and is substantially cheaper than most other options (some of those i7 boards are $400+). Anyways... do you really want to play roulette again with another cheap mobo? I myself don't want to have to open that box for a few years once I switch to the EVGA.

Some boards use an 8 pin power connector to the CPU.  If you get one of those, you'll also need a new power supply, which isn't a bad idea.

Thanks for the tip, especially re the eSata controller, which was the one (not serious) problem I was still having with the e9180t--that soemtimes an eSATA drive would be randomly "lost"--i.e., dismounted and not restorable without a reboot.  The new JMicron driver fixes that, and the latest Intel SATA/Raid driver is about a year newer than the one that came installed on the HP.

Cheers

Kudos!
