No bootable device! :(

Hi! I recently bought a hp pavilion dv4 on eBay and the laptop was fully restored from hp recovery partition and when I turn it on it just has the "no bootable device.. Insert disk" message and idk what I need to do! Please help! Thanks

run sytem diagnostics and check if parts are okay then, you can try running system recovery with a recovery disc.

How do I run system diagnostics? Sorry I'm not very computer smart

You have a couple of options as I see it please try these steps might help you resolve your issue.

1) Once unit is powered on keep tapping the F10 key that will take you to Bios go to Diagnostic check if the Hard drive is getting detected if yes please run the HDD test If no please reseat the HDD and check again in Bios.

How to run the Hard drive test

2) If Hard drive is not getting detected then you might have to get a new Hard drive and install Operating system back on the unit which should work fine.

3) If Hard drive is detected and passes the test Use the F11 key and run the Recovery this will resolve your issue

How to Run a Recovery using F11

Thanks a lot for the help but once I power it on it says "no bootable device" message and I keep tapping f10 key and the message appears over and over and I tapped the key for a good 2 minutes and nothing happened :(

Wait I got the diagnostics and it says "hard disk not exist" ...?

okay if that's the case it seems that hdd is not being detected by your notebook, you need to reinsert it or just check if the HDD cable is connected properly to your system board
