I read Slatebox & though Slate, mistake # 1 - then I looked on the cardboard box my Slate came in and verified I have a model 3500us (everyone can stop laughing now) :smileyembarrassed:

A resourceful fellow at the xda forums has managed to root the tablet! Fun times ahead!

You'll have to get the cable from HP while costed about $50 (Australian dollars) which is a little expensive but if you like rooting it, it might be worth it.

Now that we can get an official USB cable from HP to allow us to tinker with our Slatebook, is anyone else a bit peeved at the fact they ask for around AUD$71 (or EUR$75) for the cable? It was $50 when it first came out and now it has shot up to $70 plus? How on earth do they justify such price increase never mind the fact it was an outrageous $50 to being with??

Come on HP, why don't you endorse the modding community like you did with the HP Touchpad? It gave you guys a lot of positive publicity for your products.

If you order from the HP Parts Store part # 728141-001 it will show as a Micro USB to USB cable.  What you should get (if they ship the correct cable - they have shipped me the wrong one twice) is a cable with a USB connector at one end and a Slatebook Charging connector at the other end.  That is the correct cable.  Here are two links for pictures of it:

Go here for instructions on how to root your SlateBook X2:

One question and that is:  Where is the USB debugging check box on the Slatebook X2 tablet?

HP Recommended

On android 4.xx, USB debugging check box is under the hidden option "developer options". To unveil this option you must "be a developer", what you can get by going to "About  the tablet" and tape some times quicly on the "compilation number" until a toast message says "you are developer" .  Then you'll see the developer options just above de "about.."

<LOL>  Now I are one.  <LOL>  Thank you.

Hi guys,

A development forum for Slatebook has been opened at the XDA website: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/hp-slatebook-x2-maya-development-thread-t2809038...

It's a little late but better than never and already these guys are experimenting at ways of maximising the full potential of the Slatebook.

Now if HP can bring down the price of the cable, it will go a long way of improving the image of the company.

Check out this link:  https://www.towelroot.com.  I downloaded it, ran it and now my SlateBook X2 is rooted.  It took all of 5 minutes.  When you get there click the symbol and follow the instructions.

You will also find much discussion on www.towelroot.com on the Net.

Enjoy.

There are different versions.  I used version 1.  Let me find the download link on xda-developers and I will post it.
