Post of the Week...

In this week's informative featured post, Knute, helps a member determine what might be causing the fan on his laptop to run more often, which will eventually lead to overheating.  Knute linked to an HP support document that, in addition to having some excellent photographs (who knew all that great stuff lived inside my computer?), helps to reduce heat and fan noise by assisting in cleaning the air vents of dust and lint buildup.

Thank you for your help on this issue, Knute.  If only I'd seen a post like yours three years ago; I could have rescued my poor notebook from my loveable furkids!

Now on to the top 20 posters of the week... Big_Dave is #1 for the 3rd week in a row, and erico broke into the top three!  Way to go! Thank you to all of the new and veteran contributors on this list, as well as anyone else who helped someone out this week. Keep up the great work!

look this might be worth a try just today i got round to my overheating problem after weeks of seeing if it would just go away (laziness , i know) but after a few hours i checked in device manager and found i had a coprocessor running which was situated just above the processor drop down list and called other hardware ,it would have a yellow exclamation icon next to it and if you try to update the drivers for it they cant be found so i just uninstalled the coprocessor (it will give you a warning NOT TO DO THIS  ) but i did and it solved the problem and my pc worked fine  (dont know why you need a coprocessor on a laptop you cant update drivers, made no sense) so instead of dismantling your pc or flashing your bios ect try this first its worth a look , pc is still slightly warm but not much more than normal and its stopped cutting out

ps. the pc was an upgrade from vista to w/dows 7 this might be part of the problem at a guess but dont know in all honesty , just giving some more info
