HP EliteBook 1040 G3
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

 When is USB not USB?

When it's an HP USB port on a 1040G3!

On this HP device the USB ports do not work as normal USB ports.  So are not complient to the USB standard (not just on video to drive a monitor)

Not only do you need a USB converter for the USBc port to get USB3 support, but the two main ports do not support many USB devices that have the driver within the drvice.

So when you connect a device to one of the 2 USB ports on the side of the PC, it's pot luck if it works as many are just not connecting or offereing you the file view. you do not even see the loding driver device redy for use as this process looks not to be running.

Some phones will some will not, such as the MS lumia 920, it will only connect and then only some times, on the USB c port adapter for USB3!  Can not connect phone to get images of error messages out of it to go into emails. So is this even true USB compliant?

some memory sticks will connect and some will not, so that the IT department could not image the PC.

Kingston DataTraveler will.

Never had any issue with other PCs or with the devices we are trying to use, they still connect correctly and instantly to other PCs.

Since you do not provide a lot of details on the problem, can you confirm that your BIOS and drivers are up to date? I could run HP Softpaq Download Manager or HP Image Assistant (both available from www.hp.com/go/clientmanagement) and see if you need to make some changes

do the BIOS and/or other driver updates indicated and see if USB works as it is supposed to

Also, make sure you install the HP Softpaq: Essential System Updates for Microsoft Windows 7, SP76046, which includes Microsoft hotfixes released for Windows 7

I work for HP. However, all opinions and comments are my own.
