I also had the same problem.

 

Double tapping in the upper left corner of the touch pad did not help. But when I solved another issue (with non-functioning action buttons, the fn-key, see:

I was wrong... The touch pad is still not working as it should. The problem was just temporarily corrected but now it does not working again...

It is almost beyond belief that HP can get away with making such a dumb thing as a function that is the size of the point of a pin, without a light or explanation anywhere, and all of a sudden when your keypad locks and pointer doesn't work, you are supposed to know that you have activated accidentally a function on your computer. I didn't even see a light on the keypad and certainly wouldn't have known how to activate it. I can only thank the person who posted the problem and the fix for it. HP and the engineer who came up with it should be ashamed at their stupidity. Frankly, most of us are too busy for this kind of nonsense.
