I also had this problem with the calculator.  Interestingly, I pulled one battery  out and waited a bit befor replacing it and that did not help.  Then I replaced both batteries and all was ok.  I took the new batteries out, put the old back in and everything seems to still be ok. ???  Old battery voltage 2.86 and 2.88.  New ones 3.03.

I'm guessing you have to remove both batteries to reset.

A non-obvious way to perform a complete reset (aka Master Clear) of the HP 35s is to press and hold down the [ON] key and the [R/S] key and the [i] key.  When all three keys are released, "MEMORY CLEAR" is displayed.

Hi,

Some lockups require the batteries to be removed to recover.

The batteries are in parallel, so yes, both batteries need to be removed.

Normally removing the batteries for a brief period will not cause a reset nor clear the memory.

However, some lockups will clear all the memory!!

See the HP-35s bug list to avoid those situations:

http://www.hpmuseum.org/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/hpmuseum/articles.cgi?read=735

Note that the battery low indicator isn't too reliable and that the current drawn depends on the functions used - so the old batteries may fail again during some intensive calculation and you lose all the memory again.

Best continue with the new batteries.

Regards,

Bart
