Would like to use a "Spread Element", but not sure how to program it to give current date and time.

Found the solution. Added this code:

«#JobName»

to the Spread Element.Indd that is assigned in the imposition.

I also had added a current date; under Type/Text Variables I added

month/day/year, and

I added the sheet counter from the Data Fields/Counters/Sheet Counter.

Works great. Saved as a master to automatically assign these three  items

to each sheet of any imposition without having to add varable columns to

the database.

Hope this is helpful to others.

Is there any chance you could take the time and be more detailed about the steps you have taken to do this?

It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, i needed to add a tagline to each sheet with the job #, name and description; as well as the correct date and a sheet counter.

I created a spread element that I could add to my templates and move or rotate for best position.

Create InDesign file in the same version that your SmartStream plugin is @ 6" x .125" and add this code:

«#JobName»        Date: 11:44 AM              Sheet # «#Sheet»

Save as .indd called Tagline.

Under the Spread Elements in the Imposition tab under SmartStream, add the Tag Line.indd

and position were best fit.

Important note; this tag line is only activated if a .csv is assigned. You can create a bogus .csv to use if

you do not have variable data on a particular impo. The bogus .csv does not have to have any data in it

as it is just a trigger to acivate the code in the Tag Line.indd.

The JobName will fill according to the name you give the Created Impo.

Hope this helps. Works great

Would it be possible for youto send me an example? The file you created?

I am just not grasping this.

First copy the folders inside of the attached Imposition folder into your:

HD/Users/Documents/SmartStream Designer/Imposition folder.

So that when you open the attached “ Postcard.indd” file, the template that

I created will link up properly.

Also, when you start a new SmartStream imposition, you can just LOAD the

“19 x 13” template from the drop down and the tagline will already be set.

When you open the InDesign file, you will see that I added the tagline I created:

“Tagline-SheetCounterNEW.indd”

that has the codes as such:   «#JobName»        Date: 3:39 PM              Sheet # «#Sheet»

NOTE: Tagline will need to be saved in the InDesign version that you are working in.

This particular tagline is a InDesign 2015 version.

If you are working in 2017 or 2018, you will have to open the tagline and save it in the

version you are working. Or vice versa, going down in versions.

IMPORTANT: To activate the tagline code, you will HAVE TO assign a .csv database of some kink.

I have attached a dummy .csv that I use for this purpose when there is not a

variable database being used.

Aa a side note: I have attached backup marks that we use to show the press operator

the correct backup. These are assigned front and back specific.

Also some extra marks files to use if needed.
