SCAM ALERT: Don’t Pay for Free Tools!

[ Edited ]

Did you know that HP drivers, downloads, diagnostic tools and repair services are offered to U.S. customers at no cost through HP.com if your product is still under warranty?

Recently, HP has seen an increased number of U.S. - based third party support websites selling HP driver downloads and/or diagnostic tools for as much as $150.  Some of these sites also offer repair services for an even higher fee.  Many of the websites offering these driver downloads and diagnostic tools even use the HP trademark symbol and claim to be “official” HP distributers. We want to make sure that our U.S. customers know that HP currently offers these drivers and software to at NO ADDITIONAL COST on the official HP website as part of its warranty coverage.  Our repair services are also offered at no cost if the product is under warranty.   Out of warranty products may require a small fee for drivers, software and other support features.

We encourage our U.S.-based customers to exercise caution when dealing with any website that asks you to pay for driver downloads, tools claiming to diagnose your products or other paid support options. Unless the site you are visiting is an official HP site, we cannot guarantee that the support will live up to our standards.

3 Easy Steps to Recognizing the Official U.S. HP Support & Drivers website

  • Always visit http://www.hp.com/go/support for your driver and diagnostic tool needs.
  • Bookmark it! Make it easier to find for next time.
  • Check that a website claiming to be HP contains “hp.com” in the URL.

HP customers outside of the U.S. also have access to no-cost support solutions, although the policies and websites for downloading those solutions differ by region.  To learn more about your official HP support options, visit www.hp.com/support and select your country from the worldwide map.

Spread the word!  US Customers can call 1-800-HP Innovates for more information or to report a scam.
