When you open the dialogue page to print, there should be an option to pick which tray.  Should be under "Features" tab and under "Source".   It defaults to "Auto" so you'll have to click on it to open the option to select the tray.

That's the way it's found on Officejet 7780 and can't imagine it would be any different on the 7740.  Might also do a search for the operator's manual on this site.

I don't work for HP....I just repair their printers.

Hello,

Open the document to print, Click FILE > Print.
Now select the printer, and click on "Printer Properties" to open a window .

click on tab "Paper/Quality", Select the Paper Size, and under "Paper Source", select the Tray 2.
Click OK, and then hit the "PRINT" button to start printing

( Note : Do not load cards or photo paper in Tray 2. )

Regards,
Jabzi

Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
