Hi Dennis,

Can you tell us what you mean by "regular" view?

The 2311x has a factory set 1600 by 900 resolution.

You could try scaling it differently via the Control Panel video adapter program (NVIDIA or ATI) but I don't know if you will like the results. For NVIDIA, look under the NVIDIA Control Panel ---> Adjust Desktop and Position.

Re: 2011x Monitor with Vista Windows and I'd like to change from widescreen to "regular" v

By "normal" I mean that the widescreen view stretches out the picture on the screen so that all of the material is shorter and wider than it would really be in the original.  I went to an HP site on Identifying Monitor Conditions that talked about this situation and said I should be able to fix it by using the buttons on the front of the monitor to go to either a One to One, Fill to Screen, or Fill to Aspect Ratio.  However, I was never able to get through the first button as I wasn't able to identify one of the three buttons as the "Menu" button and then follow the instructions from there.  So I remain at an impasse.

Hi,

This document indicates that the menu button is on the botton right on the monitor.  It's a fairly standard position for most HP monitors.

If you tilt the top of the monitor back so that you can see the lower edge of the monitor then you should see the buttons.

BTW, if you are using a digtial connection then you probably will not be able to do much.

The menu button is represented by an icon that looks like a box with an arrow in it, it should be the far left icon, and the button is on the bottom. You need to change the resolution on the PC first, otherwise the Custom Scaling option (under Image Control) in the OSD of the monitor will be greyed out. This is where the options you mentioned will be found. Cheers,

Re: 2011x Monitor with Vista Windows and I'd like to change from widescreen to "regular" v

Thanks very much for the earlier message!  I found a button that had the icon you mentioned although it still didn't seem to be the menu button, or at least it isn't performing that function for me.  When I clicked on this button a couple of screens came up briefly. The first said "Check video cable."    The second said a few things including that "DVI - no signal" and my current setting was 1024 x 768 and the recommended setting was 1600 x 900.  I suspect that if I could figure out how to change the setting to the latter that might fix my problem but clicking on the current button doesn't seem to allow me to do so and I don't know what else to do.  Any further suggestions?

It sounds like you are pressing the Source button, which is above the + sign; or the QuickView which is above the - sign. The  Menu button is the far left by itself.

Re: 2011x Monitor with Vista Windows and I'd like to change from widescreen to "regular" v

Thank you!  I finally figured it out.  I didn't understand that I had to use the combination of the Menu button and the + and - buttons to move the Menu button.  When I read the instructions for Using the Monitor it started becoming clear.  I now have adjusted the screen so that there are black bars on both sides of the screen but everything looks "normal" to me.  I appreciate the help very much.

Normal to you must mean 4 by 3 where as most if not all of the new monitors and TVs are 16 by 9 or 16 by 10. I suppose it's just a personal preference.
