BIOS is preventing me from installing a new card via an AGP Slot

Hi there,

I am using a Compaq Presario 6016US Desktop PC (AMD Athlon XP Processor Model 1800).  It has a 32 meg integrated nVidia GeForce2 Graphics Card.  I want to install a newer card for it (All the specs are made).  However, I'm running into an issue which makes no sense: After uninstalling the drives for the integrated chip, turning it off from the BIOS etc. (Instructions followed under the HP Website), I find that it only detects the integrated chip.  After I realized this, I decided to restart my computer at look at the BIOS.  When I looked at the BIOS, even though I had NOT installed the old graphics chip drivers, it said that the internal graphics card was to be read.  However, I clearly marked it off, hit F10 to save its settings, then saved the settings again which would assure that I would get the card working.

My new card is placed quite firmly in its proper slot.  Nothing wrong with the card (No shocks, magnets, etc.  Nothing's broken either).  I plug my monitor in the port for the monitor too and it does not detect anything (No Signal).  I am at a loss and can't solve my problem.

Help please!

Re: BIOS is preventing me from installing a new card via an AGP Slot

How about the part where it says video onboard or AGP. Can you choose to use AGP in the BIOS? If not I recommend you reset the BIOS settings to default and it should work fine then download and install the latest driver from nvidia.com
