DVI-D Hookup to VGA monitor

How can I hookup a DVI-D outlet on computer P7-1258 to a VGA only inlet monitor?

Re: DVI-D Hookup to VGA monitor

Hi:

There isn't any way that I know of.

The output needs to be DVI-I in order to hook up a VGA connection using a DVI to VGA adapter.

Re: DVI-D Hookup to VGA monitor

You will get specific adapters for connecting VGA monitors to DVI-D port on the computer. Just have to check for them at local stores like Best buy, staples etc...

Re: DVI-D Hookup to VGA monitor

You can't directly connect a DVI-D (digital) output to a VGA (analog) input. None of the inexpensive so-called passive adapters will work either. The only way to make the transition is to use an active converter. These converters can easily run $200 - $300 and may not provide you with the best picture quality. Two that I know of are;

the StarTech DVI to VGA Video Converter and the BlackBox DVI-D to VGA Converter

You may be able to search the internet for alternate vendors/retailers or other solutions. To be perfectly honest, you would be better served by a new DVI-D compatible monitor or a new video card with HDMI/DVI/VGA outputs.
