DreamColor LP2480zx - problems with running 10-bit per color channel mode

I am trying to get HP Dreamcolor LP2480zx display working in the 10-bit per color channel mode with NVidia Quadro FX 580 (from PNY).

The two posts suggest that it should be possible:

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=Display&thread.id=593&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
(see the answer from GregStaten)

But I have no success so far.

NVidia's NVSG Viewer has a button to switch to 10-bit mode. After clicking "30 bit" button, the NVSG Viewer says (in the logs):

"Pixel format error: 10-bit per color channel in combination with stereo not available",

although stereo mode is off. Our OpenGL application falls back to the 8-8-8-8 mode when trying to open a 10-10-10-2 pixel buffer. I can see clear banding (contouring) when displaying a smooth gray-scale gradient.

Does NVidia Quadro FX 580 actually support 10-bit per color channel output? Has anybody tested it with the DramColor display?
What else can we try?

Thanks,

Rafal
