Hello,
I'm having a COMPAQ P1100 CRT monitor.
I used to have Windows XP but I recently bought some RAM (8GB) which forced me to get Windows 7.
The problem is that the drivers I was using for XP aren't working with 7, is there a way to fix this ? (already tried to use compatibility mode/admin permissions)
Thanks in advance ![]()

Hi,
You have a very old monitor and the HP/Compaq web site for the P1100 doesn't even have drivers for XP, VISTA or Windows 7. The drivers posted are 11 years old. Windows 7 64 bit is very picky about drivers.
What wrong with using the Windows 7 default driver?
You might try manually installing the driver (inf file).
- Look for a inf file (xxx.inf) that resembles your monitor. The driver folder should be on your hard drive if you tried to install a driver.
- Go into the Device Manager and find the Monitors, properties, driver tab, update driver
- Choose Browse my computer and navigate to the folder containing the inf file and click on it. It might be in the swsetup folder.
- Then click on next ---- at this point I would expect W7 64 bit to bark about the driver but try bypassing, ignore and install it away. Good luck.
I know you that you are in love with this beast but perhaps it's time for the new technology. After 11 years, the CRT has to be a lot dimmer than when it was new. I wouldn't be surprise if the screen has lost some of its phosphor. Do you have to manually degauss this CRT?

Well, you could use XP64 too.
I have no problems to use a crt with standard win7 drivers btw.

The CRT is working (Windows consider the drivers are up-to-date) but not at the expected frequency, i had to play in windowed mode to get only 100hz.
I already tried to install drivers manually and it still doesn't work.
XP 64bits is not a bad idea but i would have some compatibility problems with a lot of programs.
A friend of mine suggested a separate XP partition for that game only, which is what i'm going to do if i can't fix this (windowed mode is really annoying and i still can't get more than 100hz)

@Big_Dave,
I think I located a newer driver for the P1100 but I am not certain if it supports this monitor with XP certified WQHL drivers, uncertified drivers, or doesn't support the P1100 with a XP driver.

Hi qdrien,
A separate XP partition seems like a reasonable solution if you can find all of the needed drivers. Unless you change the sata controller mode to IDE you will have to build a XP installation disk and slip stream in the sata drivers. If you do change the sata controller mode to IDE then the current installed OS will have driver issues which can be solved in most cases.
