Grandparents' HP Pavillion Desktop with XP.Does Not pick up Headphones and Microphones

[ Edited ]

PC: Pavillion

OS: XP

Sound Card: Soundblaster Audigy SE

Hello, my grandparents have an HP Pavillion Desktop with XP, and they let a computer tech work on it. I believe he installed more RAM, and they tried to have him reinstall Windows or use PC Recovery but I'm not sure if he did that or not. He took it to the shop and brought it back the next day. I would have done it myself but I was unsure of what would happen to the wireless internet if I used PC Recovery on the desktop that was plugged in to the modem.

Anyway when he brought it back and plugged it in, he asked her if the soundcard had been changed (It had been changed to an SoundBlaster Audigy SE by us with no problems) and she told him yes. I wasn't there, but now the sound works fine, but when we plug her headset and mic in, it doesn't work. I brought mine over (she lives two houses down) and it doesn't work either. Even thought the headset is plugged in, it still plays sound out of the speakers like there are no headphones. We plugged them in the front and the back. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Monica, welcome to the forum.

When requesting help, you should always include the make/model of the computer and/or monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications of them.

Have you checked in the Control Panel (Start / Control Panel / Sound) to see if the headset and mic are shown?  This is a common problem with a new install.  Also, check the settings in the software that came with the sound card.  It may have to be setup there, as well.

Please click "Accept as Solution" if your problem is solved.
