Re: HIS Radeon HD 4670 not recognised by Win 7

Hi,

You might try clearing the CMOS. Sometimes with these older PCs you have to do the process overnight.

Re: HIS Radeon HD 4670 not recognised by Win 7

Dave,

"Sometimes with these older PCs you have to do the process overnight." ?? Not sure what that statement means, sorry. Been working on this non-stop for two days now (actually longer if you count the time over the weekend getting info, drivers and hardware). As for clearing CMOS I did that once just to be able to get into the BIOS before I could install from the dvd drive. I will give it a go since much has been tweeked and added.

Regard,

Thom

Re: HIS Radeon HD 4670 not recognised by Win 7

[ Edited ]

Folks,

Not an all nighter, but close enough. After going through many scenarios and options, trying various drivers and hardware pieces, I have found a solution. Problems with HDMI sound and possible conflict with onboard sound (from Paul - thank you!) gave me the clue. I also found the AMD AGP hotfix driver file.

When I started this process, installing Win 7 Home Premium 32-bit onto a new HD within a S6500NX I did so with the Creative Sound Blaster PCI installed (the onboard disabled in the bios) and the HIS HD Radeon 4670 IceQ AGP 8X graphics card installed (AGP/onboard enabled in the bios). I knew I had to install a separate driver to get the new 4670 to work with Win 7 (from MS compatibility list). I always did the express install. Since the card was never recognised automatically and manually setting the driver always resulted in a yellow "!" in the device manager, I assumed there was a conflict, but just did not know where to start. Reading various posts here and elsewhere led me to believe it was a bios/cpu/agp problem. It was not, well not entirely, at least not the mobo directly.

I suspect the conflict was with the sound device IRQ and HDMI sound IRQ, but it was also an AMD AGP issue with the driver. Once I found the 12.3 hotfix driver (12.4 driver btw did not work either) from AMD I decided to do a custom install and not check the HDMI sound option (so it would not be installed). Now at this point I had taken out the Sound Blaster and still had the onboard sound disabled, so no sound, but did not remove the Creative drivers. Rebooting the system after installing the 12.3 hotfix driver for the HD 4670 (without HDMI sound) Windows 7 recognised the graphics card! The Catalyst Control Center worked, graphics and monitor refresh rates were now available - everything worked! :smileyvery-happy:

Now, sound. I reinstalled the Sound Blaster card and booted up the system. That worked too. The system was now complete! Ecstatic!!

I am exhausted. I suspect the problem lies somewhere in the resource assignment for sound devices, just not willing to rip everything out and test that theory (i.e., re-installing the AMD driver with HDMI sound checked should result in the 4670 not being recognised because of a conflict with the sound card or onboard sound for that matter). Plus there was the issue with AMD drivers and AGP.

I am finished.

However, one thing still bothers me (a little): why there is never a Compaq/HP logo on bootup (no option in bios to disable/enable) since by all indications there should be .... C'est le vie. Maybe it has something to do with "service packs" (whatever they are -jk) and the Compaq/HP "care" files (could care less).

Thom has left the building - good day all.

Blessings all,

Thom

Re: HIS Radeon HD 4670 not recognised by Win 7

Thank you Thom. I have been trying forever to get my Win7 box to recognise my HD4670. The 12.3 drivers did it for me :smileyhappy:
