HP 2011x cannot set resolution 1600x900

I am experiencing an issue with my resolution setting for my HP 2011x monitor.  I just received a new laptop HP 6460b that had windows 7 already loaded and when I connected my monitor up to the new laptop I could not set the screen resolution on the pc to 1600x900 (the recommended resolution by HP).  I did have this monitor hooked up to my older laptop (I had upgraded it to win 7 from xp) and I could select the 1600x900 resolution from the windows pick list.  I've been to the MS support site and they stated that win 7 only had those resolutions to pick from (btw I did install the monitor drivers to no affect).  MS stated that I could go to the graphics card manufacturer and see if they had a pathc or the ability for me create a customized resolution,  but I have an HP laptop.  

I really hope that you can help me because it appears that MS isn't.

Hi,

Disconnet the monitor from your laptop.  Now see if the laptop screen resolution can be set to 1600 by 900 or larger.  And the results are?   1366 by 768

You might try switching the HP 2011x to the primary monitor and see if the resolution can be changed tp 1600 by 900.  Go into the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel program, select advanced, then setup up the resolution for your monitors.

Yes I had tried that. I took the laptop off of the docking station and even in this mode the 1600x900. resolution wasn't even available as a choice. I've set up my monitor as the primary and secondary display to no avail.
Like I stated this is related to win 7.

Do you have a AMD Radeon HD 6470M inside?

It seems to be AMD driver related, that the monitor with its possible resolution is not properly recognized.
Maybe with another monitor cable?

No I do not have an AMD Radeon HD in laptop. It is an Intel Chooser.

I found on the internet a site that suggested that I go to the Intel site and run the Intel driver update utility.

I went and ran the ultility and it identified that my built grphics chipset driver needed to be updated. It was

related to windows 7 x64.  Once I installed this driver update and rebooted, I went in and tried to change my

resolution and low and behold there was a lot more screen resolutions to choose from and my recommended

1600x900 was in the pick list.  I selected that resolution and I was able set me screen resolution to what was recommended.

I hope HP will go out and package this up in maintenance packages.  It stated that the issue is related to EDID and that some

flat screen monitors are having issues communicating there settings.
