hi all,
please help me find the info i need to so i can decide wether to buy the HP 2311gt or not,i used to own LG D2342P which is a very similar monitor (passive 3D) & i used to be able to select the 3D mode from the monitor's menu, for example if i want to use any media player to play a half sbs movie all i had to do is go to the monitor's menu & click on 3D then select "SBS" from the 3D list & then the movie will play in 3D. is this option available on the HP 2311gt ?
i have looked everywhere ,downloaded the manual, quick start guide..etc but no mention of 3D options or modes in the menu at all,it seems like this monitor depends on power dvd to do the job!! is this true ?
i need this answered before i decide wether i should click on the buy it button or go for the AOC which does have 3D options/modes in the monitor's own menu for all 3 connections (vga, hdmi & dvi).
look forward for a reply from someone. thanks ![]()

never mind i found my answer by asking someone on another forum, sadly this monitor does not have 3D modes on its own menu which sucks because this means i cannot use any media player to play my half sbs files,i will have to use power dvd which i don't like.

i just don't ,never liked the interface, the image quality the controls,i only like to use BSPlayer & if this HP monitor had 3D options in the menu like SBS..etc then that means i could use BSPlayer to play my half sbs files but it doesn't.
anyway i have gone for the samsung s700 although its active 3D still better than using power dvd + its 120hz which is muchly needed for my PC games.

Ok, just wondered. I'm a bit dissapointed that you can't physically swtich 3D modes on my 2311GT. PowerDVD seems to work fine for playing movies, including 3d. The Powerdvd version supplied with the monitor wil play my sbs 3d vid cam files but it won't play the sound because it is in AAC format. The software supplied does not support it and you have to upgrade at a cost of $80 the last time I checked.
I'm debating on whether to return the HP and get the LG instead. The 2311GT has a nice 2d and 3d display though. I will say that.

the LG2342P also has great 2D & 3D picture but i would recomend the AOC E2352PHZ which is better than both of them,it has all the options for 3D & its also faster than both when it comes to resposevnes so games will perform slightly better on the AOC.
persoannaly i went for the samsung S23A700D which has 120hz for my fps gaming (very important) but its active 3D which sucks comapred to passive 3D (too dark ,causes headache & 3D effects not as good).

Thanks for the reply. I don't game at all on my computer. I purchased the 2311gt for mainly watching vidoes made with my Sony 3D Bloggie camcorder. I might use it to watch some 3d movies, but very little most likely.
I don't know if I will hook a device up to it directly in the future or not. PS3, better 3d camcorder, 3d br player, or some other device. I like the 2311gt but not having the onboard 3d mode switching might come back to haunt me some day.
I will take a look at the AOC as well.

Does anyone know whether the Real D 3D glasses used in theaters are compatible with those that come with the HP 2311gt? Folks say that LG passive 3D TV glasses are not compatible with the LG 23" 3D passive monitors -- causing a purple discoloration and ghosting -- and that it is impossible to buy extras of the monitor glasses. How about Real D 3D glasses compatibility with the Viewsonic 23" passive 3D or the AOC 23" passive 3D? The Real D 3D glasses ARE compatible with my 32" Visio passive 3D TV.

when i had my lg d2342p i tried nearly all passive 3d glasses & none worked the way the originals do (3d wasn't good),the only ones which are compatible with your lg monitor are the Zalman ZM-SG100G glasses which can be bought on ebay.
trust me i have saved you a lot of hassle here because the search for compatible glasses was a waste of time & money for me,i don't understand why LG didn't make the glasses available for us to buy !!
