HP 2509m monitor issues in 1080p mode with 6 month old MacBook pro

everything worked fine (for the first couple weeks) when resolution was set to 1080p when hooked up to my MacBook, but then i hooked the Macbook up to my television to watch a movie. now when i try to use my 2509 monitor (via HDMI cable) I get really bad flickering in when set to 1080p. If I set resolution to to 720p there is no flicker, but the quiality is horrible.

any help?

HD, welcome to the forum.

Here is the Solve a problem section for the monitor.  The flickering may be caused by not having the monitor set to the native resolution (1920x1080) and refresh rate (60Hz).

I wonder if when you connect it to your TV, the Mac is going into a 30 Hz or 24 Hz refresh rate for the TV, and then when you go back to your monitor, it doesn't like this new rate. Can you access the monitor's menu both when it's working and when it's flickering, and see whether the monitor itself reports a different refresh rate in each case?
