HP Media Center m7160n Desktop PC, Sound issues

HP Media Center m7160n Desktop PC

Widows XP - 32 (Media Center Edition)

Upgraded Video Graphics Card.

After i upgraded my graphics card the software drivers for it were multimedia Sound included.

After speaking with Tech support with AMD (Graphics card was Radeon HD 6450), tech support said that it overwrote the old sound drivers and because i have my speakers hooked up to the main CPU and not somehow into the Graphics card itself.

That i needed to update my old sound drivers so it could run sound through the main CPU.

Please help... :smileysad:

Re: HP Media Center m7160n Desktop PC, Sound issues

Here you can find the audio driver:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=47050...

But maybe it helps to check BIOS first.
Graphics cards with hdmi change the settings to disable on-board sound (because sound is offered inside hdmi then).
Check BIOS if it is enabled.

Re: HP Media Center m7160n Desktop PC, Sound issues

issue Solved.

I can not express how thankful i am to you V, i know you just want a simple kudos but i felt it necessary to expand on the problem for future users too.

First off i already knew it wasn't the drivers i had uninstalled them and reinstalled em more times than i could count.

It was in fact the BIOS, it wasn't set to disabled but instead "auto" and radeon was trumping the onboard sound to default to the card, i simply set the onboard sound to "enabled" rather than "auto detect" and that fixed everything. I feel foolish for not realizing it myself. :smileyembarrassed:

Second im writing this to personally thank  you V.

As soon as HP customer support found out my comp was 5+ years old their attitude was pay for level 2 operator to help you or get lost, even though i asked for a simple navigation to their FREE drivers update.

I had all but lost hope on fixing the issue... Rant over .

On the upside he (customer support) did point me to the forums where you were able to help me.
