I recently screwed up my CPU and bought a replacement (exact same kind). I am running windows 7 ultimate and have been for about 6 months prior with no issues. After the replacement of the CPU I get intermittent lock ups, sometimes with a small portion of the screen flickering. I say intermittent but at least every 15 - 20 minutes. Different programs, different habits but always the screen will freeze.
I went in and deleted the driver under the display adapters, pick a "completely remove option" - then after the reboot the system on its own loaded a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter and since then there are no more crashes. Of course the functionality is not as full, large icons and such but it works.
So this certainly seems to point to a driver conflict i would think. But for this machine there is never any Windows 7 drivers only Vista. My skills are only so so but I get around.
Any guidance?

Hi,
Yes, your PC has Integrated Graphics Controller: ATI Radeon XPress 200 for which we do not find Windows 7 Compatible Drivers from ATI.
The BEST OPTION: Purchase a Video Card, and install it in PCI Express 16 slot on the Motherboard for Better Display and Multimedia Performance with which Windows 7 worth Using else it looks just as Windows XP

Thanks for rapid response. I actually did order a new graphics card for PCI express slot earlier today, but I think it is still weird that when I did actually upgrade from XP to Win 7 everything worked fine for again months. So not sure what was different but new video card will be here Tuesday so I will go with that.

If you installed it in Different Partition than Completely removing XP and installing Windows 7, the Windows 7 could have found Driver for Graphics Controller from XP installed Partition.
Or Through Windows Update, Driver for Graphics Controller might have been installed. You may give it a Chance (Click Start->All Programs-<Windows Update, select all Optional Updates and install them), check if Display looks Good.
As Graphics Card is on the Way. I hope you dont want to waste time on Integrated GFX.
