HP2709M and Sony PS3-Any way to hook up external speakers?

I recently purchased the HP2709m for the specific purpose of gaming with a PS3.  I used a HDMI cable from the PS3 to the HP2709m and the I'm extremely happy with the performance.  The graphics are the best I've ever seen.  The problem I'm dealing with is that the speakers just don't have the kick necessary to really get into some of the games.  The HP doesn't have any ports to plug in a set of speakers but I'm totally ignorant about anything technical and hoping that someone can help me with this.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The monitor is input only. Do you have anyway of gettings audio out of the PS3?

Re: HP2709M and Sony PS3-Any way to hook up external speakers?

Thanks for getting back to me on this.  I've been searching for an answer to this dilemma and haven't had much luck.  The HP2709m has been improved my gaming experience beyond words.  The detail in the graphics is about as close to perfect as I could ever hope for.  The problem, as I mentioned in the initial post, is that the speakers are very underpowered and so I'm trying to find a way to hook up external speakers.  Unfortunately the only connection between the Sony PS3 and the HP2709m is a HDMI cable and there aren't any speaker ports (not to mention the fact that I'm technically challenged) I cannot see any way to do this.  You mentioned connecting the speakers through the PS3 but I'm wondering if that is possible.  What I'm wondering is this:  The three- connector cable that I used to use to connect to the television from the PS3 (one red, one yellow and one white) and if I'm using the HDMI cable to the monitor, can I also use the old three- connector cable to the speakers.  Will the fact that I've got the HDMI cable connected to the TV cancel out the three-connector cable to the speakers?  I know this must sound confusing and I hope that you know what I'm asking.  Anyways, thanks in advance for trying to help.  We really appreicate it.  Happy Holidays.

You mention red, white and yellow jacks coming from the PS3, which are analog video and audio. Do these work simultaneously with the HDMI? If so, then run the red and white to speakers, probably through an RCA to stereo audio adapter. Check out setup procedures and limitations from the PS3 manual.

Don't know if you are still having problems with this but i use my ps3 with an h2408 screen  and was disappointed with the sound as well.  But if you use a hdmi connection as well as the rca hookups (the red, white and yellow) and then go to sound settings in the ps3 it will allow you to use both connections for for sound thus allowing you to connect the ps3 to any surround sound system available and definately increasing the ps3 experience.

Thanks for the input.  I tried what you've suggested and it worked fine and as you've stated, the added dimension of surround sound has really heightened my gaming experience.  Thanks so much for taking the time to help. Best wishes and Happy Holidays.:smileyhappy:
