How come all of a sudden I get several horizontal multi-colored lines on my desktop?

I have an HPw2207 monitor-using Windows Vista op system. Couple days ago I got many lomg, medium, short horizontal color lines across my desktop. It doesn't affect programs at all, just the desktop. I've rebooted several times but they don't go away.Any ideas or do you think the monitor is shot?

Hi,

 

Check the connections on both ends of the video cable.

 

Try another monitor and cable on your PC to eliminate the PC as the possible problem. Alternatively, try your monitor and cable on another PC.

 

This HP Display Quality Issue article might be helpful.

 

If you have a discrete video card in your PC then reseat it (remove and replace).
