How to set up w2207h monitor to work with cable box

I would like to hook up my monitor to be able to watch tv on it.  I called Comcast "they" said it wasn't possible.  I have read that I would need a DVI to HDMI adapter.  I'm unclear on how to hook it all up.  Am I right in thinking I will have a cable box, attach the cable to it, then what goes from the cable box to the monitor?  I'm not talking about a dvr cable box, just the small one.  Is this scenario a possibility?  I have the HDMI cable that came with my monitor - Help!!  I'm sorry I'm not very clear on all this but if someone can help me, I follow directions very well!  Does it matter if my computer is older?  Does anything actually connect to the computer?  I will appreciate any help any of you can give me.  I'm tired of googling.  Thanks in advance!  SherriSews

what type of connection is on your cable box

Well, unfortunately I got the cable box today and they gave me a huge set of coaxial cables.  I explained to the woman at Comcast that my monitor does not have any places to put the cables but she said I could get a dvi to hdmi cable and that would fix the problem.  I don't see how that fixes the problem.

look at the cable box and what type connectors it has

should be more than one type

you can get a dvi to hdmi cable

which has a dvi connection on one end

and the other end is hdmi

but you will not get sound

if you has a entertaint reciever box that

has a hdmi plugs and also speaker to

attach to it that you can attach your

cable box to it with the conversion cable

and hdmi cable to the reciever to the monitor

or you can get a rca to pin plug Stereo from

Radio shack to connect if you prefer not

to use the entainment reciever

that if your cable box has output sound
