Hello. I am looking for a small circuit board part for my HPw2207 monitor. After searching for solutions to a OSD Lockout problem, I found that pressing the Menu button for 10 seconds should stop it. However, the switch itself seemed stuck in the "on" position. So, as I am fairly adept at repairing things, I decided to open the monitor and see what the problem was. Well, I found it. After discovering how to remove the front and rear plastic bezel, down at the bottom of the monitor, where the Menu buttons are, there was a small circuit board housing and switch button assembly, that was all corroded. I removed it to look closer and what did I find?? It was CAT PEE!!! One of my wife's cat's must have sprayed the corner where these switches are, and as cat pee is very acidic, it had completely corroded the 3 pins on the circuit board connector, and froze up 3 of the 4 micro switches. So now, my only recourse to fix this is to order a new circuit board assembly. So......this is my question.
Are these parts still available, and if so, how do I order them. I do have some numbers from the circuit board itself, which is held in place with the button assembly by two small screws.
On the front side of the circuit board, there is a number, which may or may not be the complete assembly number or perhaps the circuit board number, but I'm not sure. Here it is.
7900771500000R
On the back side of the circuit board(green side) there was this number.
490481500600
I don't even need the entire assembly. Only the circuit board. I just purchased this monitor and can't afford another one.
I may be able to use the monitor withOUT the circuit board in place, if it will work. I'm going to reassemble it without it to check. But if this circuit board is available, I would sure like to get one so I have access to the Menu items. Since these monitors are still being sold(at Staples) I assume parts MUST be available, but from my experience in searching HP...well, I wouldn't doubt they arn't. But just in case...that's why I am posting this thread. Thanks for any help.
Oh...btw...the CAT is GONE now. History. Good riddance too. He pee'd on more than this monitor too. Ruined half a dozen things of mine and this was the last straw.
Thanks
Rick

Hi Rick,
You might look on eBay for the part or Google the part number. HP considers monitors consumables so internal parts are not stocked.
I don't think an extended warranty will cover TCP (tom cat piss) even if you had one.

Hi Big Dave. Consumables hmm? Well, I got something HP can consume.
Ok, well time to do what my
Dad taught me. Like bolting the rear of a Dodge alternator on the firewall of a Dautsun because we didn't have the money for a new one. Simply ran the wires from the dodge diodes to the Dautsun alternator. Worked like a charm..and drove it that way for 3 years. In this case, I'll simply mod the case with 4 micro toggle switchs wired to the circuit board. Like my dad said when he was alive...where there's a will there's a way. But I'll never buy another HP product. If I can't get parts, I won't buy a company's product again. btw, When my cloths dryer coils burned, I simply twisted the coil wire ends back together. Still running after 2 years. That's what you do when you are a poor DIY'er. And that's why I still drive a 93 Toyota pickup. I can get parts and fix it myself. Try to fix one of the new cars. Hahahahaha.
Ok, well thanks for the info Dave.

Well, I'm back. Got another question. Is there any place here at HP or on the net where I can find a schematic..at least a portion that shows the circuit board in question. Problem is this.
Having looked at the connector, and the circuit board/switches, I found a conundrum. The connector FROM the mainboard or such, has only 3 wires. But there are 4 switches on the circuit board. I don't see any chips or other electronic components other than a couple of very small resistors. I don't claim to be an electronics geek, but I certainly can figure out simple circuit paths, but this one has me a little stumped. I understand digital signals work entirely different than analog, so maybe there is some kind of resistance sensor/coding/ or something that allows some other circuit to detect which swtch is being closed. But in order to rewire new mini toggle momentary switches to the board, I can't tell if these original switches are DPST or SPST or which wires they actually connect. I opened one of these switches that were corroded, but the copper "connection diaphram" was so thin, that it was like a foil which was almost totally destroyed, so I can't tell what kind of switching function they perform.
Anyway, if I could actually see the circuit I might make this thing work like it's supposed to. I don't want to guess and burn something out on the mainboard. So if there is a schematic available, could someone link me to it. I'd surely appreciate it. Thanks
Rick

Hi,
I see you are determined "by hook or crook" to fix the problem. Most of the switches are momentary switches. You could craft a L shape piece of sheet metal that you could fasten to the back and then mount the micro single pole momentary switches to the L shaped piece of metal. Be sure to "round" the edges to avoid cutting yourself. Frankly, it is was my monitor I would toss it.
I don't know the age of your monitor but you might check with your credit card company, if you used a credit card for purchase, and see if there is an extended electronics warranty to cover the monitor replacement. Sometimes the credit card companies will add an additional year of electronic warranty protection.

Hi Dave. I appreciate your replies. Well I just did a thourogh examination of the circuit board and really examined the damaged switches after opening one. But since they were damaged, I couldn't see anything other than the interior contacts. Then I used a multimeter to trace out the connector wires to the switchs. It appears that although these are momentary switches, they are normally closed. But it's really difficult to be sure.as I get continutiy whether they are depressed or not. In fact, without depressing any switchs, ALL traces have full continuity between each other. But when depressed, the resistors become part of the circuit..or something like that. Now I'm certainly no electronics geek so figuring out DC current paths through resistors are difficult for me. Like Auto circuits. They will drive you crazy sometimes, but I know enough to replicate parts of a circuit with new although different than OEM parts. Think rear Dodge alternator.
But I need to figure out if these switches are normally closed or open. I'll do that by unsoldering one end of each resistor. and then check with the multimeter.
Big_Dave wrote:You could craft a L shape piece of sheet metal that you could fasten to the back and then mount the micro single pole momentary switches to the L shaped piece of metal.Hmmm, although there are FOUR connections on each switch, I discovered they are indeed single pole because there are only two contacts on the interior. I haven't actually determined what or how I am going to implement the new switches yet. I may not use toggles afterall.

Dave, I'm a 30 year Union journeyman millworker(fancy name for fabrication specialist.) and CAD designer/draftsman . I've designed and built over 300 floors of Macys store fixtures without ever getting hurt. No, I won't cut myself on a small piece of aluminum.. but thanks for the advice anyway.
And btw, I have a complete woodworking shop and a ton of specialized aluminum extrusions salvagied from work. I fabricate with wood, laminates, plex, steel, plastics, fabrics, veneers, and a thousand other materials over the years. I know lots of processes, machining, assembly etc etc etc. Did I mention....piece of cake.

That's probably because your pockets are deeper than mine and you don't need to fix it as bad as I do. After all, it's a perfectly good monitor with some bad switches.
I don't know the age of your monitor but you might check with your credit card company, if you used a credit card for purchase, and see if there is an extended electronics warranty to cover the monitor replacement. Credit card? hahahahahahashah! That' tickles me pink.I haven't had a credit card since 1962. But I;m solvent and don't owe those theiving bankers a dime. As far as the age of the monitor, I bought a high end x58/ i7/975 computer, with the monitor included, second hand from a guy on ebay who just built it but decided to go with a laptop. It was only one month old, and I;ve had it for a little over 8 months. And you would trash it? Well, like I said, you don't have to walk in my shoes. Frankly, I absolutely abhor throwing away perfectly good merchandise that happens to have a small problem. I can't afford to. But by the look of the dumps...America has no problem trashing good things. I guess they've had it too good. My dad was an original "okie", and he taught me the value of an hours work. But I believe more people are learning since this current economy will NEVER return to what it was.The Federal Reserve will see to that.Well, enough of that stuff.
Dave, just so you understand, here is where this monitor goes. I NEED it soon for two recording sessions next month. This is my DIY recording studio control room. I built everything. The pic was from 6 months ago. The CR is almost finished. The Sketchup shows what it is SUPPOSED to look like.
And btw, those two spaces under my mixer are soundproofed enclosures for two custom built computers that I modded the cases to redirect the default cooling scheme via crossflow fans and hidden plenum airpaths.
Well, I think that illustrates my point. I don't think this project will be a problem. Do you?
Thanks again Dave

Hi,
Good luck with your project. Nice setup!!![]()

BTW, I once new a guy who didn't have a credit card and when he went to check into a hotel he found out that it was required. They wouldn't even take cash.

Thanks. As to hotels.. I don't travel. Can't afford the gas, let alone a hotel, even if I HAD a credit card..ya stil gotta pay for it...with INTEREST...LOTS OF IT. oh, did I mention thieving bankers.
Or can you afford to not notice the economy...which they stole...and then laughed. Well, that's why my pitchfork is sharp and bloodthirsty. And I ain't kidding.
