HP Windows XP Home Edition
Monitor is HP v72
Computer is hp Compaq d220 MT
My monitor tells me to change the resolution in order to work, but then won't let me use the computer. When I hook up my monitor to my computer it comes on briefly, showing XP Home Edition booting up, and then the monitor gives me a resolution error message telling me that my resolution is set too high and instructing me to change it. I can't change it without seeing on the monitor!
I hooked the monitor up to my laptop and it worked fine.
I tried opening XP in Safe Mode (per the instruction manual), but immediately after getting started in Safe Mode a bunch of DOS-like commands filled the screen and then, seconds later, the same error message appears.
The computer was a recent gift.

How about this.
Try turning on the pc and hold down F8 key and when you get the black window menu select Last Known Good Configuration. Hopefully this will fix it.
If this doesn't work may ask are there any files or programs that you need from the pc?
Do you have the Recovery discs?
I would go ahead and try a system recovery on the pc wipe it and start fresh. I believe F10 or F11 is for Recovery at startup.
