Monitor is possessed

I have the HP w2207h "22 inch HD monitor. It's only 9 months old.  Auto adjust and the volume bar keeps popping up. After a week online and on the phone with hp techs (?) nothing could be done. Have connected monitor to other computer and it is definitely the monitor.  I am getting ready to send the monitor in to be repaired (or replaced) by HP. I personally think the problems lie in the monitor panel buttons themselves and not in software. Very frustrated. Have installed latest drivers including latest supplied directly from hp techs. No effect.   Going back to factory resets have done nothing. System restore had no efffect. Nothing worked. When I am able to pull up the menu on the panel buttons it is riding up and down the choices without my touching it. If anyone can solve this I'll be amazed...

Re: Monitor is possessed

Inside the monitor, at the lower left corner is a PCA board. On that PCA board is either a bad trace or the board might not have been inserted correctly at the factory. In either case, a button is in a constant state of on, the only things to do  that I can think of is to squeeze/pinch the plastic together in the lower left hand a corner a few times - this might cause the PCA to settle into place (which you also would want to tighten down the retaining screw at the back if it does snap into place).

Other than that, service, replace, or return.

Re: Monitor is possessed

That pretty much confirms what I had thought. It might not be the right answer but it is the one that seems to make the most sense. Thanks for the quick response. Not going to fool with it and give anyone grounds to void my warranty. I'll just send it in and see what happens.

As I work online I have already ordered another monitor to get me through. I will add that the replacement is not an HP...lol.

Thanks once again.

[ Edited ]

I would like to say that I am having this exact same problem with my monitor.

Volume menu pops up and goes to 0 then continues to pop up randomly. If you are able to get to the factory reset option, then it just starts the volume level at the middle and goes to 0 again and repeats the same process of popping up in the middle of the screen making it virtually IMPOSSIBLE to get any work done on this monitor.

I want my money back.

I would like to add that this monitor did not start out this way. It started out of the box perfectly. This has only been happening after using the monitor approx. 5 months.

Re: Monitor is possessed

How comforting to read what I'm in for.  I've had my computer for three weeks so far and have nothing but issues with it.  On top of that, I get directed to consumers to get answers.

Re: Monitor is possessed

Hello... I have an HP w2007 LCD 20 inch. Close to yours. When I bought mine, I had problems with it & it took a very long time to realize that the Monitor was defective. That it wasn't my new cable connection or the new security software. Drove me crazy for months trying to figure it out. Anyway... DEFINATELY send it back to HP for a new one. Their return program is great!
