Hi there, I had an HP from years ago and had a dual set up... I had a converter on one of the connections in back.... and i have since gotten a new HP and this converter no longer works (different fit) so I need to figure out how i can get my second monitor to work!
The computer has one VGA in port and this one works fine.. but the other port is a DVI-D Dual link port.... so i need to somehow get this port to have a connection so i can add the 2nd monitors vga connection to it! What part can I buy? Please let me know which amazon product will work and i'll but it today! Thanks much!

There is no passive adapter that will let a DVI-D (digital) ouput work with a VGA (analog) monitor. You can buy an active converter to change DVI-D to VGA, however it is going to be expensive and the results aren't that good. In fact, a new monitor or two will be cheaper than a converter.
High Resolution Video DVI to VGA Converter
Please provide the model number and/or product number of your new HP computer, as well as the make and model of your two monitors so that we may assist you to the best of our ability.

Thanks for the quick reply!
The computer i just purchased is the HP Pavilion p6-2100 Desktop
and it actually says it's set up for dual monitors on it... so i can't imagine i would have to buy different monitors just to set it up. i hope i don't have to get another one! Lol... Not sure the exact model numbers that i have for the monitors, i know the samsung monitor is something like the 2200wm syncmaster or something like that, and the other one is an LG monitor. Both of the monitors have male VGA i believe.... it's the standard monitor connection i believe. I was on amazon and some people bought converter cords or converter pieces, but the reviews are mixed, so i'd rather ask you guys the pros! please let me know what to get and thanks much for your help and speedy response!

It was ... now it's dvi or even hdmi
>some people bought converter cords
A cord alone will no work, Frank gave you a link!
A cord is a normal adapter between vga and dvi-a (or dvi-i).
dvi-a means analog! So you need a graphics card that supports analog signals. vga is analog too, so that works.
Standard monitors are digital now - so they have dvi-d - d means digital.

As vnyga pointed out... VGA is no longer the norm. Your computer has one VGA (analog) out and one DVI-D (digital) out... so you need one monitior that supports VGA and another that supports DVI-D... no way around this.
I looked for a Samsung 2200wm but it doesn't exist... I did however, find a 220wm and 2220wm, both of which support DVI-D and have the correct input jack. You may just need a DVI-D cable for it to work. Please check the back of one or both of your monitors for alternate inputs to use. Please post exactly what jacks they have and/or the exact brands and model numbers of your monitors for more assistance.
