No DIsplay on HPx2301 Monitor when connected to my MacBook Pro - OSX Snow Leopard

Product:  HP x2301 Micro Thin LED Backlit Monitor

Host: Apple MacBook Pro i7 QuadCore (MacBookPro8,2

Connector:  Thunderbolt/ MiniDisplayPort (Apple's miniDisplayPort  to DVI adapter)

OS: OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).

When i try to conect my new Monitor with my 15' I7 MacBook Pro, the monitor scans for a signal (DVI, HDMI, VGA), can't find one, displays the message "monitor going to sleep"  then shuts down.  The Mac detects the Monitor but just for a short time.  It sometimes displays it in the "Display Preference Panal" (somtimes long enough to long enough to manipulate its settings, but then it can no longer detect it. invested

The supplied Documentation does not have any mention of Apple or OSX at all.  The ad copy made no mention of a WindowsPC only restriction

So - how can I make this work with my Thunderbolt equipped Mac (I haven't in an HDMI cable yet because I want to confirm that the monitor __should__ be able to work with Apple equiipment.

Re: No DIsplay on HPx2301 Monitor when connected to my MacBook Pro - OSX Snow Leopard

I have discovered via swapping cables from another working pc/display combination, the the DVI cable that shipped with my new monitor was defective (this was the first time I tried to use it - directly out of the box).  I will attempt to get it replaced as a warantee repair.
