No sound device on DC7600 minitower

Hi, so I just reformatted a DC7600 minitower for a friend with Windows XP pro SP3 and all works great except, no sound.

Now I tried installing every possible Realtek driver, to no avail. I get this message when I check Problem Devices in Msinfo:

System Information report written at: 01/24/12 19:38:21
System Name: SHARKSANDLASERS
[Problem Devices]

Device    PNP Device ID    Error Code
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2772&SUBSYS_3010103C&REV_02\3&B1BFB68&0&10    The drivers for this device are not installed.
PCI Device    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27D8&SUBSYS_3010103C&REV_01\3&B1BFB68&0&D8    The drivers for this device are not installed.
PS/2 Compatible Mouse    ACPI\PNP0F13\4&EDE93E0&0    This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed.

I am guessing the problem is the PCI device, but I tried many different options without any luck. Anybody could help me out on this one?

Thank you very much!

Re: No sound device on DC7600 minitower

Thanks very much Paul for the extensive answer. I did everything in that precise order and the video controller problem is gone, but still the PCI device is not working and the computer doesn't have sound.

Any other insight?

Re: No sound device on DC7600 minitower

Hi:

Please click on the missing PCI device in the device manager.

Then click on the details tab. Post the top string of characters you see.

Those will ID the type and model of the PCI device and I can send you the link to the drivers.

I don't know why you are having issues with the audio. Normally it should just work with those 2 drivers.

Re: No sound device on DC7600 minitower

Hi:

Well, that is the reason you have no sound.

That is showing that the Microsoft UAA Bus HD Audio driver still is not installed, even though you ran the package.

You must uninstall the realtek HD audio driver before you try to install the driver below.

Try installing this driver again.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=US&swItem=ob-703...

or try this version:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12...

Try installing these drivers manually by clicking on the PCI device in the device manager. Click on the driver tab. Click on update driver and browse to the installation file that was created when you ran the package. That file is located in C:\SWSetup\spXXXXX, where XXXXX is the file number of the downloads above.

You may have to just pick sub folder in those files to find drivers.

But that is definitely why you have no sound.
