WIndows XP
Installing a GT520 graphics card, and updated the PSU to 600W/18 amp. The computer boots very slowly and when Windows finally starts I can see the CPU is constantly pegged. No single program seems to be dominating, they're the usual startup programs, but they're battling each other for CPU. I also tried a new Radeon video card and had the same problem.
I checked my BIOS which was set for PCI. I have tried both PCI and PCI-E with the same results.
I installed the video driver and rebooted, same results.
When I reinstall my old video card, the problem clears.
I'm out of ideas, please help!

TStattert, welcome to the forum.
Have you installed the latest video driver for the card? The driver that comes with the card is most likely not the latest. Also, have you checked to assure that you have connected the leads from the PSU properly? If they are not connected properly, it could cause additional power being directed to the CPU.

Thank you for the response (also, the computer is a Presario, not a Pavilion).
I believe I do have the PSU connections correct.
I have not tried finding a newer driver than the one that came with the card, I'll give that a shot.

TS, it is my pleasure. Here is the Product information for the computer:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product
If you look in the Motherboard Specifications page, it has a diagram of the mobo. It will show you the connectors. This will allow you to check the leads from the PSU.
It is always good to keep all of the drivers up to date. Each has changes that could effect the operation of the component. If the latest driver doesn't solve your problem, we'll go from there.

I did find a newer driver for the card, but that didn't solve the problem.
