Profiling for LP2480zx -- HP "solution" does not work on Vista 64-bit ... Help!

[ Edited ]

Can anybody give me an idea about this?  On my new Vista 64-bit comp, the "HP Dreamcolor Monitor Profiling Solution" sees my LP2480zx display but always says the colorimeter device is not connected.  It will not "see" the colorimeter no matter what I do.  Everything was installed according to directions and shows as present and functioning correctly in the Vista device manager.  No matter what I have tried, I cannot seem to get the HP software to recognize its own bundled hardware.

The operating system "device manager" shows the "i1 Device" (HP-rebadged colorimeter) as installed and functioning correctly.  I have tried the colorimeter puck on all USB ports, and have uninstalled and retried the software.  No use.  The software just will not talk with its colorimeter device on this computer.  Would appreciate any idea, before I write this off and ask HP for a refund (since I only just got it) ....

FWIW, this all works fine on my old (XP) comp and also on a nearby Vista 32-bit machine.  (Also works under Win7 32-bit.)  It is only on the new Vista 64-bit system that the software can not see its colorimeter puck.  (Maybe worth noting also the new Vista 64 machine has nearly no other software installed at this point, so I do not really suspect a conflict.)  I have verified the USB ports are working properly using external drives, mouse, keyboard, etc. -- though the USB port presumably isn't an issue anyway, since the machine/operating system do report the i1 device as attached and functioning properly.

I'll admit that Vista is not my favorite and I know that 64-bit has "issues."  This is my first experience with 64-bit.  Am I missing some Vista64 "security" wierdness/configuration that might be interfering?  Or is the issue with HP's software?

Help!  And thanks in advance ....
