Radeon 4870 or other new video card for a6560t

I have a a6560t and would like to upgrade the video card. I am thinking about a Radeon 4870 and was curious if:

1) Will it fit in the case?

2) Will it work with the a6560t?

3) Will I be able to get much out of a 4870 with the a6560t or should I consider a lesser card to team up with the a6560t platform?

4) Anything else to consider?

Note: I plan to upgrade my power supply as needed.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Radeon 4870 or other new video card for a6560t

LeChatlier, here is a link to the "Product information" pages for your computer:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documentSubCategory?tmp_rule=16905&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=377...

*If you look at the link titled "Product Specifications", you will see that your computer has a 300W power supply unit (PSU).  This is not enough power for the 4870 video card.  It takes a minimum of 650W.

1. I doubt that it will fit into your case.  The XFX ATI 4870 is 9.5" long; double profile.  Your motherboard is only 9.6".  So, since the power connectors are on the end of the card, there would hardly be enough space to get them connected.  You can measure the space available to make certain.  Also, you would need a "Crossfire" ready PSU.  The 4870 requires two power connectors.

2. No.  See my explanation above.*

3. If you want to upgrade your PSU and the space is sufficient, the 4870 is a great card.  I have been using one for several months.

4. No.  The PSU upgrade and sufficient space are the main considerations.

Geekster,

Thanks for your reply.

Anyone out there tried getting a 4870 (or comparable) inside a a6560t??

Before I shell out the $$$ I was hoping to know if it will fit.

Thanks!

Re: Radeon 4870 or other new video card for a6560t

FYI,

I upgraded the power supply and the 4870 fits in the case well. It definitely is noisier than the 9300GE it replaces but the performance is outstanding.

Re: Radeon 4870 or other new video card for a6560t

I'd like to update my video card. My PC is a6421.sc It's almost the same as a6560t or is it? Anyway, my problem is: Do these video cards work with my PC: ATI Radeon HD 4850, ATI Radeon HD 4870 and ATI Radeon HD 4890? These video cards use DDR3 and DDR5 memory. So, does my motherboard support these memory types?

LeChatlier, glad to hear that things are working for you.  You can reduce the noise a bit by adjusting the speed of the fan.  This is done using "Catalyst Control Center" in the Catalyst software.  I have mine set at 45% and may reduce it to less since the weather is getting cooler outside.
