Resolution on a Hp 2207h

I just bought a HP 22" monitor #2207h. It's a nice monitor with a big screen. The problem I have is when I'm in the large res (1680 x 1050) the print is really small and web pages are too. If I change it to anything lower than it distorts my pictures. Like a picture of a person's face I took looks wider than what it should be. In the 1680x1050 the face looks great. Am I stuck with the smaller print and web pages in order to keep the photo looking good? On my settings I have changed it to Large Fonts, but this does not effect the web pages.

Computer:

Compaq Presario SR1750NX Desktop

O/S: Windows XP Media Center

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Resolution on a Hp 2207h

Thomas, this is the one downside to LCD monitors.  They have a native resolution and anything other than that resollution, will not work as well.  However, you should be able to increase the size of the font.  I can do it with my keyborad and mouse by "Cntrl + mouse wheel".

I use "Firefox" browser.  Another way for me to increase the font size is "View/Zoom" and it allows me to Zoom In or Zoom Out.  Notice that the I and O are underlined.  This allows me to use Cntrl +(+) and Cntrl +(- ) to increase and decrease the size of the font.

I hope this helps.

Re: Resolution on a Hp 2207h

You can change the DPI Setting on your Display.

Go to Control Panel > Display (or right click on your Desktop > Properties) and select Settings tab > Advanced and change your DPI Settings to a larger one. This way you can keep your monitor to the native resolution and has a bigger font.

Re: Resolution on a Hp 2207h

old_geekster, I have Firefox. I went and tried what you said about the zoom and that worked out great. Now my nose is not touching the screen anymore!

Thanks,

Tom.

Re: Resolution on a Hp 2207h

Thomas, I am glad that it helped.  Firefox has allot of good inovations that simply aren't in IE.

You may want to try the suggestion posted by "Smarties", as well.  This is more of a permanent fix than the ones that I suggested.

Good luck!

Re: Resolution on a Hp 2207h

Yes, I took Smarties suggestion and that works even better. I bumped the dpi up to 125 in the custom section, it was set at 96 dpi. You guys are true wizards!!!

Thanks again.

Thomas, not wizards, but geniuses. LOL!

Actually, for me, it is 20+ years of reading expert articles and making as many mistakes as possible.  All you have to do is read the saying that I wrote at the bottom of my post:

Re: Resolution on a Hp 2207h

Rick, it is good to have you helping.  I guess I would put my knowledge level at a 6-7 out of 10.  I have been doing this for a long time; since 1984.  My first computer was an Apple MacIntosh in 1984.  It had no hard drive, just a single 3.5" floppy drive.  The CPU was 2MHz --- fast, huh?

Did you try  "Smarties" suggestion in reverse.  You could also reduce the DPI the same way.  I believe the smallest DPI is 75%.  Also, you could try reducing the size of the fonts and use small icons.
