Software to record from Front A V Inputs on new Pavilion m9515y

[ Edited ]

Does anyone know of software that can read and record fromt the front analog A/V inputs included with my new Pavilion that'll run on Vista 64?  It took over an hour in chat and then some time on the HP's 1-800 number for them to simply admit that although the HP m9515y included front A/V inputs, HP has npo software to read or record audio and/or video from those inputs.

All they could suggest was the opensource VLC player.  That player can't find the front A/V inputs.   I have a week of home video from last week's Disney trip that now I can't convert to DVD.

PC is Pavilion m9515y that can be purchased at BestBuy.

I'm an intermediate level user and have been goffing around with PC's since the 80's, no programming experience though.

Thanks in advance. - Tim

Tim, you are supposed to have "muvee (prn. movie) Reveal Premium" on your computer.  From what I have read, you should be able to use it for that purpose.

Here is a link to an ad for it online:

http://www.muvee.com/en/products/reveal/

Here is what it says:  Easy Transfer

One-touch transfer from your camcorder, phone, or camera makes it easy to import any pictures regardless of format.

If all else fails, you can contact their Tech Support to see if they can help you.

I hope that you find a way to enjoy your Disney trip.  We just spent a week at Disneyland in California with our 5 year old granddaughter.  What a great time.    We only took still pictures, but they are fun, also.

Re: Software to record from Front A V Inputs on new Pavilion m9515y

Old Geekster:  Thanks for the reply.  I tried MUVEE Reveal first but it's limited to capture from digital devices.  The HP Help on the MUVEE Program says "Analog devices such as TV tuners cards and VCRs and analog video capture cards are not supported. If you want to use one of these cards, use the software that is associated with the device and convert the video to a compatible video file: ASF, AVI (DV, MPJEG), DivX, MPEG 4, WMV, 3GP, or QuickTime MOV. Some proprietary digital video devices might not be supported."  Of course, there's no software to use with the front analog inputs.  Grrrr.

As mentioned, I did try Tech Support, but their only offer was to bill me $60 for more support.  They did admit they don't support the analog inputs included on their computer.

I did push hard enough to finally get to "Quality Department" after repeatedly asking to be referred to a supervisor.  Now waiting an e-mail or call back. <drumming fingers>

The Disney Trip was fun and if I can ever burn it, I have over 3 hours of video.  We took our 3 year old, 8 year old, and my parents along.  Grandparents are the main reason we survived.  Thanks again for replying.

Tim, sorry that I was not more help.  It appears that HP uses dummied down versions of the programs.  This makes people want to buy the retail versions of the program.  Good marketing, I guess.

Here is a device that I use to transfer video from my old VHS tapes to my computer, using my VCR:

It may be a way for you to get the job done.  I have always found that the programs that come with computers are not that great.  This is why I bought the Dazzle.

Good luck!
