Speakers on my Pavilion desktop d4650e with Xp Sp 3 will not work They are Logitech s120's. They worked before the reinstall but not now. Memories of drivers and some other measures taken when I first set them up nag but I can't recall what the directions were. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello,
Does your HP Pavilion have a integrated sound card or a PCI sound card? Have you checked under device manager if the sound card is installed? Also, do you have an icon on the system bar close to the clock showing, similar to a speaker? If you connect a headset or headphone into the green jack, will you have sound?
I just want to understand if the problem is the speakers you have or that you don't have the sound card drivers installed.
If your PC model it's the d4650.se, here you have the audio drivers, if its not, please confirm the PC model to me again please.

Check if this document helps you to find out what is the problem.
Let me know if you still need any help.
THanks,

Prior to my reinstall the speakers worked and did originally need some drivers. Unfortunately, I forgot to log that info. Right now, no speaker icon in taskbar area and on sounds and audio device properties it shows no audio device at all and nothing is coming up on any of those control panel options. Basically I think that no icon means nothing down the line. You are correct on the d4650e designation. I tried the driver that you sent and It did not work. i remember realtek the last time rather than creative. And the driver may have ended in 2. My device manager says that on sound video and game controllers all is in order with speaker icon by Audio codecs, legacy audio drivers and media control drivers and the video ones too. Where there is a lineup of the big yellow? marks is in area of other devices such as
audio device on hi definition audio bus, other PCI bridge device, PCI simple communications controller,SM bus controller video controller (VGA) Compatible. I don't know if its germane but here it is. Should I try to look for an answer in the second link or does this info suggest another tactic. Thanks

I just looked at your reply to me and i see d4650.se My PC is a d4650e. i also am trying and so far the sp26793 did not help and some of the other measures got no results in the other link such as window audio properties.. I am trying to look for the drivers in the list of where to look and I dont have something referred to often. I do not have HP Tools or HP help & tools in my software . I dont know if that is critical I will keep trying. Anybody want a used PC? Also the driver down load page doesnt respond to my PC item number and i went thru the exercise of looking all over the thing while all wired up..a real pleasure but thats the cost. Right? Hope to hear from you soon to rescue me. Peace out

you did rescue me! Thanks. But, guess what. I was noodling around in the wee hours last night and got it to work. It didnt seem kosher though and something was off I thought but I tried it in every way and it worked OK. I googled around for things that made sense and think this is what I did. I couldnt get the UAA to attach because it kept saying my service pack was already there but eventually I found SP26334 and it stuck. Then went and KB835221 and downloaded that and finished with KB888111. That's when i finally got the realtek controller and that's when I got sound. I could be wrong about what I did but it makes me concerned now. I am wondering if I have started to screw my PC up again with drivers, updates that I don't need or are redundant. How can I see and how can I know if it is deleterious. During the time I was doing all of this the MS updates function was running constantly. I didnt see anything relating to audio but again am concerned now. Any advice? and thanks for the help..
