Well... since replacing the motherboard is over my head I guess I'll try replacing the graphics card and see what happens. I checked out HP Parts and got a message saying they don't sell the GeForce 8300GS 128MB... Nice! Would anyone know if I can replace it with an 8400GS 512MB which I found available at a local retailer? Will it fit and function properly? Don't have the bucks to send to a repair shop.... sheez, what a hassle!
Again, thoughts & advice appreciated.

It sounds like the video card is bad.
Your model has a motherboard that has onboard video. To make sure that it is the graphic card and to get your functionality back immediately, remove the video card, pop the little plastic cap off of the onboard video connector, and use the integrated video.

I've got no sound at all form my slimeline 3100...all tests run ..ca shows and software shows installed, updated and working..however there in NO SOUND..geek squad checked it out and could not run system recovery and could not erase all the info..wierd.Any solutions.Trying to deal with HP techs in manila and the bangalore is a joke..(a bad joke) .Perhaps the only solution is to send in under warranty .But thats a hassle ..and trying to get HP to respond is lunacy personified.Any thoughts on repairing the sound is sincerely and greatly appreciated.Could it be a bad mother boards other hardware issue.Since it shows up in device manager, and as noted all software signals are good.Please help thanks

Popped the plastic cap and plugged in my monitor - clear as a bell! Dude you saved me a bundle! Went and bought a new graphics card (BFG GeForce 9400 GT 512MB, the only low profile card to fit in the Slimline). Looks beeeautiful! Updated and reconfigured everything and its all good! So its been running for 3 hours and I'm hoping I'm good to go... Kudos for everyone!
