Switching to PCI graphics with dead onboard graphics

[ Edited ]

A friend owns an HP Pavillion a6750f.

The product #FQ563AA#ABA

S/N {Removed for privacy}

Her monitor was blank only showing Analog/Digital/HDMI source switching messages.

I tried to get the PC to go into BIOS mode, but I'm not even seeing messages on the screen during the boot up.

I tried a different monitor on this PC and it had the same effect.

I tried this PC's monitor on another PC and it works fine.

By this, I diagnosed that the onboard video is dead.

I bought a new Diamond Media Radon card - PCIex.

I have installed it, but I get nothing out when I boot.

I'm thinking that the BIOS is set to onboard video rather than something like auto which would recognize that at 3rd party card was installed.

SO - how do I, without a monitor, switch the BIOS from onboard to PCIex??

I don't even know what key brings up the BIOS menu or the order/sequence of keys to navigate to this feature and switch it.

I've looked through all the support documentation on this site, but there is nothing a this level of detail.

Hi,

Please tell us what Diamond video card model is being used?

You should not need to change the bios when you install a discrete video card.  When the bios recognizes that a video card is installed, it will automatically switch to the video card in the PCI-E x16 slot.

Try another video card that is rated to work with the 300 watt power supply in the HP a6750f.

Re: Switching to PCI graphics with dead onboard graphics

I asked my friend to confirm and will pass it along, but I believe it was DiamondMM Radeon 5450 w/512M memory - PCIExpress.

Hi,

Try a different video card that is not a Radeon 5xxx model and is rated to work with a 300 watt power supply. I have seen posts on this forum where Radeon 5xxx video cards did not work in older HP PCs.
