Transferring Video From Camcorder to Computer

How can I transfer video from my Sony DCR-TRV19 Digital Handycam to my Compaq SR5710Y computer?  The computer runs Vista.  I have tried to transfer my video unsuccessfully with a USB cord.  I keep getting a message that the device isn't found on my computer.  I don't see a Firewire port on either the front or back panels of the computer, so I can't seem to use one of those, either.

Re: Transferring Video From Camcorder to Computer

Hi,

The Handycam has USB port and can transfer video using USB port but you need driver and application from the CD to install on your Vista machine OR you can download driver, application and manual from the following site:

Re: Transferring Video From Camcorder to Computer

BH, thank you very much for the tip, however, I am borrowing this camera, so I've never uploaded to my computer the cd that came with the camera.  The link you provided instructs me to UNINSTALL a program that was never installed to my computer in the first place since I've never used the cd that came with the camera.  I was told by a computer geek I know that this camera simply isn't compatible with Vista, but the link u provided almost makes me think it might be.  Needless to say, I'm still confused as to how to transfer video from the handycam to my computer.  :smileysad:

Re: Transferring Video From Camcorder to Computer

Hi,

It looks like the most easy way: buy a PCI or PCIe - Firewire card. The machine has spare slots, just install it on your computer (driver should come with it). I can give you one if you paid for P&H otherwise you can buy one similar to one of these:

Can't Transfer Video From Sony Handycam Camcorder to HP Pavilion p6716f Desktop PC Windows 7

My Sony Handycam isn't recognized by my HP Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium system on an  HP Pavilion p6716f Desktop PC.

The Sony website says it's software for my Sony Handycam doesn't support download of streaming video to a Windows 7 computer through the computer's USB port.  This is bad, because that's how I downloaded video to my previous XP system.

So just how can I transfer video or still images from my Sony Handycam to my  HP Pavilion p6716f Desktop PC Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium system?

A TV tuner card with video- and audio-input should work.

Thanks and kudos.  I ended up going the budget route and ordering a FireWire 400 / 800 PCIe card.

Re: Transferring Video From Camcorder to Computer

Hello Rich,

Here are the specs for your computer HP Pavilion Slimline s5-1204 Desktop PC Product Specifications. The digital video camcorder you have uses a DV connector that connects via Firewire. Which your computer doesn't have.

The cheapest option you have available is to purchase a DV cable JVC recommends their cables vc-vdv206u not entirely necessary, but it at least gives you an idea of what you are looking for. The next thing you want to do is buy a firewire IEEE 1394 Firewire PCI card. Something similar to this IEEE 1394 FireWire® PCI Card. Although you don't need the three slots you can find these pretty cheap.

Alternatively, you can get an adapter that will do Firewire to USB which will probably be around the same price or a little cheaper, but I'd recommend the card if you can go that route.
