Connected my new monitor to my PC using a VGA to DVI converter but it won't work.  What is happening and what else can I try?

Is it a converter or an adapter?
VGA2DVI-D is always difficult.
Startech for example doesn't offer any:
http://eu.startech.com/AV/Converters/Video

You can upgrade your graphics card or try an usb-adapter like:

http://www.evga.com/products/pdf/100-U2-UV19-TR.pdf
http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-Universal-Multi-Display-Adapter-Black/dp/B002F9NSMQ/ref=pd_cp_e_1

They will use your current graphics device.

Yes it was a coverter I tried then an adapter, I'll try the usb next I think, then if all else fails I'll just buy another PC.
