I get the beeps and no display in that configuration.
I can probably put in Card A and get into the BIOS config and check to see if the CMOS reset allows me to choose anything other than PCI-E (it only listed PCI-E before).
This sort of goes in the opposite direction, though: I want to replace the video card and I need to be sure the card I use to replace the failing Card A will work. So far, the motherboard fails to recognize Card B and Onboard Video.

If you compare the psu of the HP and your other PC (home built) - are there differencies?
Maybe you need more powerful or a more efficient psu?
If you try the other psu in your HP ...?

The power supply in the home-built machine is a 480W Antec. The one in the HP is a 350W HiPro (HP-installed).
I don't know if the other PSU will fit in the case for the HP, as it is longer and the fan positioning is different. I can try that later, though.
Why would a fanless video card (Card B) require more power than an fan-cooled video card (Card A), though? It just seems strange.
I'm considering just transplanting everything to another case, but that's sort of an extreme (and possibly more disruptive) measure to have to take because a video card fan is failing.

So which is it, 3 beeps or 2 beeps?

Hi,
And what did the HP bios beep document tell you what the problem is for your PC?

2 short beeps and 1 long beep (repeats 5 times) -
Unable to initialize video or video card required but not installed
Same beep code on any configuration except original state: Card A inserted.

Hi,
What other information and changes can you share with us about your PC? Any hardware additions or replacements? Changes to the motherboard connections or jumpers?
It seems a bit strange that the on board video fails without a video card installed but the ATI video card works.

The fan on the video card (Card A) has been getting progressively louder and eventually got loud enough for me to be concerned it was about to fail. This started about 2 weeks ago.
Wednesday night (Feb 15) I removed Card A and tried using Card B. That's the only time I have ever opened the chassis other than to spray compressed air into the chassis to clear any dust.
No other hardware changes or additions prior to the posting of this thread.
