Windows 8.1 Sound

I installed the real windows 8.1 from MS Store today.  So far all seems to be working EXCEPT sound.  The desktop has an AMD High Definition Audio Device,  Windows thinks the speakers are not plugged in.  Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Windows 8.1 Sound

Hey Jerry419,

I understand you updated your computer to Windows 8.1 today and you are having sound issues.

If you follow this site you can download the AMD High Definition Audio Device drivers for windows 8.1.

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/drivers.html

Windows updates should also update all the drivers for your AMD High Definition Audio Device.

Please let me know if you require further assistance, but I would need your Model number on your computer.

Thanks

Re: Windows 8.1 Sound

Hi,,

That happened to me also.

Open Control Panel, Sound.

Select IDT HD Audio or Realtek as default.

That should fix the problem.

Re: Windows 8.1 Sound

I have the same problem when updating from 8.1 preview to "real" 8.1.

Everything works except my sound went missing and Windows complains in lower right that no speaker or headset is connected.

Windows update says 1 impotant update

IDT - Audio Device - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

Can't install, just gives error 8007001F

When i try to download driver from HP support pages gives error 9996 and something my system does not fulfill minimum recuirements.

Re: Windows 8.1 Sound

Hi,

I upgraded from Win 8 (RTM) to Win 8.1 RTM.

MS stated users would not have a clean upgrade path from the Win 8.1 preview to the final release of Win 8.1.

Error 9996 indicates the HP installer cannot find a previous version of the software on your system. I had that happen and the only solution was, in my case, to reinstall the factory image, backup the SWSETUP on C:\ to a removable drive.

Then reinstall Win 8 (system shipped with Win7) and install all drivers on Win 8 using the SWSETUP backup.

Did not install the preview (Win 8.1) but did an upgrade from Win 8 to Win 8.1 via the Microsoft Download Store.

Re: Windows 8.1 Sound

Mine is even worse: I have an empty box and the message "No Audio Devices are Installed."

Re: Windows 8.1 Sound

Hi , Sorry to hear that you are having issues with the audio on your computer?  What is the model of your computer and I will have a look and see if we have a updated driver for windows 8.1?  Depending on the model of you computer, I know that HP has updated drivers at www.hp.com/support

Please write back if you are unable to find the updated driver.

Thanks in advance
