Would like to add second monitor , what do I need ?

I have read a lot of posts, but have not figured out what I need.  I have a HP Desktop p6212f.  I have two monitors that I would like to hook up.  I am currently using the video port on the computer.  Do I need to get a dual port card or can I use the port on the computer and add another port on the card.  Can I use the DVI and VGA port on the computer without a new card.  Which card would be best and compatable with the system.  Will not be doing any gaming, just internet and word documents.  I downloaded the specs for my system, but it does not specify what type of slot I have to hook up the card if needed.  Lots of questions, sorry, just want to make sure they apply to my system.  Thanks!

Hi,

The motherboard in the p6212f only has one video output port.  See the motherboard specifications.

You might consider a USB to (VGA or DVI or HDMI) adapter for the second monitor.  www. newegg.com has these adapters.

Another choice is to install a discrete video card along with a replacement power supply.  This would be more expensive but would offer a lot better video performance.

I would have to replace the power supply as well if I added a video card?

Hi,

NVIDIA and AMD require a 300 or 400+ watt PSU to power the discrete video card.

What type of applications do you want to run?  What is your budget amount?

If you don't have high requirements for monitor settings then there's no need to change much at you pc, as Dave mentioned try one of these products (or similar):
http://www.evga.com/products/pdf/100-U2-UV19-TR.pdf
http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-Universal-Multi-Display-Adapter-Black/dp/B002F9NSMQ/ref=pd_cp_e_1
http://aluratek.com/usb-2-0-high-resolution-vga-adapter

They will use your current graphics device.
