change sound settings

current sound set up is for external speakers, i have a monitor with in built speakers i wish to use instead, how do I change the settings

This will be a external speaker, too!

Just check how to connect pc sound output with the monitor sound input.

the monitor lead has the green jack which fits the green sound socket on the cpu which is connected, i think i might need to change the settings for the monitor though,

this has all come about as my mother has given me her cpu which I am trying to swap over to my monitor, she had lots of stuff, webcam, external speakers etc which i have to delete, my old cpu was windows nt and the new one is windows vista so i am struggling on how to work the new system!!

The monitor should have come with a cable to connect to the pc's output.
The monitor settings should be ok to run the built-in speakers, but you can check the monitor menu for anything about 'sound'..

If you need more help you should tell us the pc and monitor types we are talking about.
