have E-machines e-21h 19" monitor.
been using vga cable, but since both the pc and monitor have dvi ports thought I would give that a try.
buyt when I power off the PC, plug in the dvi cable, there is no signal.
dont have another cable to test with, any other suggestions?

Hi,
Look in the manual for the monitor and switch the video input source to DVI. You might try powering off the monitor and the PC then attach the DVI cable. Now power on the monitor, look in the monitor's menu and see if you have the correct video source selected. If yes, now power on the PC.

found th buttons for the monitor on the bottom, but it defaults to input of D-Sub and will not let me save change to dvi-d. I can select dv-d, but it will not save.
strange thing is when I have the DVI cable plugged in, the monitor is not only blank, but I cannot view the options from the monitor buttons. I only see them when the VGA is plugged in.
how weird is that?

Hi,
Be sure to only use one active video source. Only attach one cable to the monitor and then to the PC. The manual for your monitor might tell you how to reset the monitor. Don't use any adapters and be sure that the cable is DVI-D (see the back of the p7-1020).
You might need to try your monitor and cable on another PC.
